Birthdays, Birthdays Everywhere, and Not a Dime to Spare!

We've had so many birthdays around here.  My step-daughter, mom, and husband in January.  My sister and her husband in February.  My nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law already in March, and it's only the 5th!

I really don't like the idea of spending 4 or 5 dollars on a card.  Sometimes I don't have much more than that to spend on an entire gift for someone.

That's why I'm so excited we learned to make a cute card at the make-and-take at Archiver's this past Saturday night.  I'd show you a picture, but I already gave away the one I made.  Guess what I'm going to be saving money on in the near future.  I can't wait to make another one and post it here.  It's so cute, and it's easy to make!  And it has that special, hand-made touch.  All I have to do is write a pretty verse inside and send it.  I really can just look up verses on the Internet that I can use depending on what type of card it is.  Works for me!

Sunday Scrappin'

I haven't been scrapbooking much lately. There is just no time! But I did take some time to make a thank you card, although the photo didn't turn out well. I've been leading a scrapbooking group at school with 28 middle school kids. That's been "fun!" No, really, it is. But the school doesn't provide any supplies, so it gets expensive. Many of the kids have their own supplies, but some of them either don't know what to get or can't afford it. So, I've been supplying as much as I can.

I'm ready to start on some scrapbook pages for my step-daughter's senior year. I plan to give her a scrapbook at graduation, and I have invitations to make. It may seem too early to start planning, but with my schedule, it's not! I hope everyone has a scrappy week. And if you haven't joined us at Sunday Scrappin' yet, please do!

Sunday Scrappin'

I wasn't able to post last week, but I'm here today, and since I scrapped last night, I'm sure I'll have something to show you next week.

Sunday Scrappin'

Better late than never! I should be going to bed since I have to work tomorrow. But, I wanted to do this. I was only able to make one card this week with all the back-and-forth trips to the hospital. Good news! Mom came home today! I'll still have to check on her frequently since she lives in that big empty house alone. A friend is there tonight so I can work tomorrow, and my sister will be over there tomorrow. Scrapbooking is only one of the many things I haven't been able to tend to in the last couple of weeks.

Let me get on with this. I wanted a black and white card for my step-daughter, and ideas were swirling around in my head for a week, then I finally just went to my supplies and did this.

To do: Get ready for my scrap weekend! In two weeks, I'm going to Round Top, TX for a scrap retreat, and I'm so excited! I also still have several birthday cards to make.

I don't have any idea if I met the challenge last week. Here's this week's challenge:

Next week's challenge: beat those winter blues by using the color BLUE as the main color in one of your projects. Should be easy, right? :)

Sunday Scrappin'

I thought I'd get these photos posted before I head off to the hospital this morning. This hasn't been the best week for scrapping, but I did manage to make two cards, one thank you and one get well/thinking of you. They were made in a hurry, though.

I started on one of the many birthday cards I need to make, and I also started on my altered tin (part of last weeks' challenge to try something new). It's going to be a Valentine's Day gift, so I have plenty of time. Next week's Sunday Scrappin' challenge is to use stickers. I can do that. Well, I can if I get some time to scrap. There is a weeks' worth of mail to go through, a house that needs cleaning, stacks of grading and paperwork to do for school, my son's science fair project to help with, bills to pay, errands, etc. Oh, and I need to go to the hospital to be with my mom. I may not get any of the other things done, but I am going to do that now.

My Ta-Da's

14 gift tags. I'm only showing 13 of them because one of them wasn't picture-worthy.

8 Christmas cards. I'm only showing 7 of them!

Lots of digital pages (18) that I can print and use for gifts for both sides of the family. Some of them look like duplicates, but there are minor differences depending on which grandparent they are for.

My To-Do's

Try to keep up the momentum. I especially need to make a cover page for my mom's scrapbook Christmas album.

Challenge

Last week's challenge was a little different. Instead of Amy giving us a challenge, we were to leave a challenge for the person who commented after us. My challenge was to use the color brown in a project. I think I did that! The challenge that I left for the commenter after me was to hand-write journaling or a sentiment on a scrapbook page or card. I wonder if my challenge went to Rebecca or Krista?

This week's challenge is to complete a gift item for someone else (card, page, whatever) and share the pattern/ details with us along with your finished project, just in case we're inspired to try your project ourselves. I'll do the cover page for my mom's scrapbook!

Sunday Scrappin'

Sunday Scrappin' is the place to be if you enjoy traditional scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking, card-making, or any other type of paper crafting. I love sharing with everyone, and I enjoy getting ideas. Mostly, it keeps me motivated.

Ta-Da's

I made four cards and three gift tags this week, and finished my Christmas Planner. It doesn't look as professional as most of the ones I've seen, but it's functional, and I used supplies that I already had, so it didn't cost me a thing! The ribbons at the top are my tabs for each section. Two of my cards were Christmas cards, one was a sympathy card, and one was a get-well card. Two of my little gift tags are very plain because I was basically just practicing with my new heat embosser. (Thanks for the quick tutorial, Chrissy!)

I also did some digital scrapbooking - trying to get gifts ready!

To-Do's

Scrapbook, scrapbook, scrapbook! I'm going to sort photos and plan layouts now. I also have three more Christmas cards planned. Last, I need to get some digital layouts done so I can print them and send them to the grandparents for Christmas.

Challenge

Last week's challenge was to use a new template, which, sadly, I didn't do. This week's challenge is a bit different, and I love it! Since Amy was having trouble coming up with a challenge (How DOES she do it week after week, anyway?)... YOU will make the challenge for the person who follows you. Like this: the first commenter leaves an item in their comments that the person after them is challenged to use in this week's craft projects. So, if I leave a comment after Amy, she has challenged me to use the color brown in my projects this week. What a creative way to come up with lots of clever ideas for future use!

My challenge, for the person who comments after me, is to HAND WRITE a journaling box for scrapbooking or a sentiment for a card. Easy!

My challenge for all of us is to make and send a Christmas card for Holiday Mail for Heroes.

Holiday Mail for Heroes

Both Lucy of LuLu's Petals and Tamy of 3 Sides of Crazy have posted about this, and I'm sure there are many others, and I hope you'll join us! When you are doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card (at least) and send it to this address:

Your card will be distributed by the American Red Cross to service members, veterans, and their families in the United States and around the world. Guidelines are here. Cards should be postmarked by December 10.

Please do not include any inserts, phone numbers, email addresses, or other "personal" information in your card, but don't forget to sign it. The Red Cross suggests using a generic greeting such as "Dear Service Member."


(Side note: Cards should not be mailed or delivered directly to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Walter Reed is not accepting mail addressed to "A Recovering American Soldier.)

Let's help the Red Cross meet their goal of 1 million cards and make the holidays brighter for our U.S. service personnel.

I have two cards to make this week. Maybe I will get a scrapbook page or two completed as well. I have pix set out from my daughter's parade team - they are from 2001. I am so behind! I also need to organize my supplies!

Sunday Scrappin'

My Ta-Da's this week include the following:

My first ever handmade Christmas card. Not happy with how the paper turned out after inking. I like the stocking okay. I made my own pattern and cut it out then stickled the edges of the white part. You can't tell in the picture, but the white paper is textured. I stamped a sentiment on the inside. It's too plain. Still thinking about how to go about my next attempt.

Next is a "to/from" tag for Christmas. Very simple. Just a stamp, some ribbon, and a cute penguin cut out.

I made a two page Halloween layout (not from this year's festivities). I used the fuzzy papers for photo mounting and embellishments that I recieved in a goody package from Stamps, Scraps and More. The paper is from my stash.

And I used Smilebox to make two digital pages, one of my son playing baseball and the other of my daughter at her recent band concert.

My To-Do's"

Challenge:

The Sunday Scrappin' challenge last week was to use ribbon. I used some red ribbon on my tag. This week's challenge (and I read this AFTER I wrote the post) is to use a sketch found online to complete a layout or a card. Amy has a few links up at the SS site to help us out. Happy scrappin'!

Since the hurricance blew through, I haven't felt very creative, although I've had extra time on my hands. I finally made a card for my mom that I've been planning to do for two weeks. I made a gift enclosure and one scrapbook page. Here they are:

To-Do's

Find some inspiration! Get some creative juices flowing! I want to make several scrapbook pages this week. I'm so far behind that I know I will never catch up. See that kindergarten page? My kids started 7th grade this year! I've taken some breaks to do special albums such as vacations, but as for every day pictures, I'll never get caught up! My goal is to try, though.
