It's Just My Opinion

Boy!  Black Friday has sure changed since I went out shopping in 2009.  Prior to that, I went in 2007.  I have always had good experiences, unlike some local shoppers today fighting over TV's at Walmart and purses at Dillards, and I have never seen things get so out of control like the shooting at Nordstrom's in Chicago.  I haven't braved the crowds in five years, and I'm just fine with that.  I don't need any big ticket items, and the amount of gifts I have to buy has dwindled.  I can get a lot of it online, which is the super-easiest way to shop!  Did you brave Black Friday?
What I did today instead was go to a movie.  My husband is not a huge movie fan, so when a family member tells him he will like a movie, he capitulates and takes me to the movies.  This doesn't happen often, maybe once a year or so.  I usually go to movies with my friends.

The thing is, I rarely like the movies that are recommended to him.  Snatch, Moonrise Kingdom, Inglourious BasterdsBurn After Reading, In Bruges, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, to name a few.  Oh Brother, Where Art Thou grew on me.  I didn't like it the first two times I saw it.

However, today's movie is not going to grow on me.  Have you heard of Birdman with Michael Keaton playing the lead?  I always think of Michael Keaton as Mr. Mom, a film that was popular the year I graduated high school.  That, and Beetlejuice, which was just creepy to me.  I know he played Batman, but I don't enjoy comic-book hero movies, either.  I like Emma Stone, who played his daughter, but I didn't like her character, or lack of character, actually.  The storyline was unimpressive, and parts of it were just weird.  Someone told us they laughed so hard, but I didn't think anything in it was funny.  It was actually quite depressing.  A washed up actor with a highly dysfunctional family and group of friends tries to write, direct, and star in a Broadway show.  In my opinion, it had no redeeming qualities.  It's just my opinion!

Next time, I am choosing the movie!  I still haven't seen Gone Girl, Mockingjay, The Judge, or Horrible Bosses 2.  I think I will enjoy those four.  What type of movies do you like?

Friday Confessions

I'm linking up with High-Heeled Love for Friday Confessions.

I confess...
Forgive me; I have erred.  It's been 9 days since my last post!

I confess...
I was actually thinking of taking a sick day on Monday, then I realized, Monday is a holiday for me!  Duh!  We are off all week.

I confess...
I am looking forward to seeing daughters who have been away at college.  Can't wait to see their beautiful faces!

I confess...
I don't know what to do with a new set of Bath & Body Works (bath gel, lotion, body spray) that I have used twice.  I liked the fragrance in the store, but I've used it twice, and I don't dislike it, but I'm just not crazy about it.  Did I use too much of it to regift it to someone?  Maybe.  Or do I just use it even though it's just "okay" and not "delightful" to me?

I confess...
I don't like when people vaguebook.  You know what I'm talking about:  Cryptic comments such as, "I can't believe this is happening," or "I really need some prayers but I can't talk about it."  That type of thing where people want your attention, but they won't tell why.  Does that bother anyone else?

I confess...
No one in my family is cooking a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year.  Several members of the family will be out of town, so I think we're just going to go out to eat, if anything is open.  If not, we may end up eating soup and sandwiches!

I confess...
November has FLOWN by!  I have one more day of work, and when I return, it will be December 1st.  How did that happen?  Have a good weekend!

Friday Confessions

Link up and confess with High-Heeled Love!

I confess...
I. am. exhausted!  Today I walked in the school doors at 8:10 AM and walked out the doors at 6:40 PM with a half hour for lunch.  That's a ten hour day!  I even brought work home with me (at least a couple of hours worth of grading).  And I felt guilty for leaving when I did because I didn't stay for the theater arts performance.  It's hard to explain what takes so long, other than the obvious, teaching 105 students how to read, write, and think.  New writing programs, tons of documentation, correspondence, copies, creating new lessons that incorporate technology... that's  just part of it.  I'm loving school this year, but I'm so tired!

I confess...
One of my favorite shows on TV this year, and maybe I shouldn't admit it, is How to Get Away with Murder.  Do you watch it, too?  It's so clever and suspenseful.  It's one of those shows that you don't want to miss anything because it might be important later.

And, finally, I confess...
I'm a Rockets fan.  Basketball season has begun, and my favorite team is doing great!

Musing Mondays

Musing Monday is hosted by Should be Reading.

Right now I'm reading a book called Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin.  It's for a book club we just recently restarted, so it's a book a friend chose for all of us to read.  It is set during medieval times.  Four children in Cambridgeshire England have been murdered, and the King of England, Henry, calls on his cousin, The King of Sicily, whose subjects include the best medical experts of the day.  The best doctor (similar to a medical examiner) happens to be a female, so she must hide the fact that she is the doctor because only a man would be accepted as a doctor in England.  While she and her party are in England, the killer strikes again.  I won't give any more of the story away.  It's pretty good!  I'm over halfway, and I haven't been reading it very long.

I read whenever I get the chance, and definitely every night before bed.  I recently purchased Three Minute Devotionals, and I like to read that first each night.  Happy reading!
