To Pot Luck or Not to Pot Luck

I hope your Thanksgiving was good!  Did you cook the entire meal?  Or did each person bring something?  I cooked chicken and dumplings for lunch, then our cousin cooked dinner: turkey with all the fixings.  It was ah-mazing!  No pot luck this year.

I used to enjoy pot luck lunches and dinners.  I loved eating new dishes and trying all the different ways people can make potatoes or macaroni, and don't get me started on the variety of desserts!

But... I thought too hard about it.  I thought, "What if people play with their dogs who just rolled in the grass then don't wash their hands before they prepare the food?"  It happens!

And, "What if they let their cat on the kitchen counter to lick the bowl, or feed their sweet kitty pet food out of the same dish they are using to prepare the food without running it through the dishwasher first?"  It could happen.

Or, "What if they have roaches, ants, or other critters around the food preparation area?"  I shudder to think!

So, I will still eat pot luck if I actually KNOW the people providing food, but thankfully, I don't have to eat any more pot lucks at work, not that anyone ever forced me!  That big buffet of pot luck dishes is mighty tempting.  I'd have a hard time saying no despite my excessive thinking!  How about you?

And last, but not least.

Have a great week!  And don't forget to visit Happy Tuesday and Random Tuesday Thoughts.

Thanksgiving Dinner and Shopping for the Fam

IMHO, Thanksgiving has the best food of any holiday all year! I love traditional food like turkey, dressing, rolls, and cranberry sauce. Do you call it dressing or stuffing?  Do you make it with bread crumbs, cornbread, neither, or both?  I'd love to know!

Our Roomba vacuum quit working.  Actually, it Isn't Roomba brand, so maybe that's why.  Thank goodness Amazon has already started their Black Friday deals!  We've got to replace it.

This one is on sale for 42% off! This might be our replacement!

I'm also looking for gifts for the fam.  Here are some I'm thinking of buying.

Random Happy Nonsense

Oh, Daylight Savings Time.  I hate you.  You stink.  (That reminded me of a Shel Silverstein poem about homework!  (I think it's in Where the Sidewalk Ends-great humorous poems for kids and adults alike!  (affiliate link)

But as I was saying... DST.  I love to get back the hour they take away from us in Spring, but I'd be much happier to be like Arizona and just have one "time" for all year.  And if we stayed on DST, it would get dark at 6:30 instead of 5:30 in the winter, which is much more reasonable, don't you think?

I love this time of year.  I would love it more if we could get our temps lower than the 80s, but I still love it!  Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year, but I'm not sure exactly what I'll get this year.  I won't be cooking a feast since our kids will probably not be here.  We share them with their spouses' families and/or our exes, and they can't be everywhere at once.  We will take whatever time they are able to spend with us.  I will either have Mom over for a couple of hours and cook a small meal or take her out if any place is open.

But don't you just love the Thanksgiving meal?  Do you call it stuffing or dressing?  We call it dressing, and we make it with cornbread, among other things, and sage.  Turkey, dressing, rolls, gravy, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese (or mashed potatoes) and cranberry sauce (the jelly kind, not the berry kind.) Delicious!  What does your Thanksgiving feast consist of?

Moving right along...
