Is it time to put the tree up?

Yes, Thanksgiving is in two days, but I am anxious to put my new miniature tree up this year!  Two years ago, my daughter and I went to Decorator's Warehouse in Arlington, Texas.  Huuuuge place.  Dozens of themed trees. One was a mostly pink candy-themed tree called Sweet Shoppe. I would love to have one like that, but I also love my traditional tree, so, this year I bought a 3 foot flocked tree.  I plan to decorate it (not candy themed, necessarily) with pink, light blue, and white, similar to the one I fell in love with pictured below.  I can't wait to put it up!
This will be my inspiration

So, I'm not in a hurry for Thanksgiving to be over except for that one reason.  Actually, I love Thanksgiving. It's my favorite meal of the year!  Turkey, dressing (that's what we call it), cranberry jelly, rolls, gravy.  Yum!  I make dressing with cornbread.  How do you make yours, and do you say dressing or stuffing?

Funnies for today:

Thanksgiving Dinner and Shopping for the Fam

IMHO, Thanksgiving has the best food of any holiday all year! I love traditional food like turkey, dressing, rolls, and cranberry sauce. Do you call it dressing or stuffing?  Do you make it with bread crumbs, cornbread, neither, or both?  I'd love to know!

Our Roomba vacuum quit working.  Actually, it Isn't Roomba brand, so maybe that's why.  Thank goodness Amazon has already started their Black Friday deals!  We've got to replace it.

This one is on sale for 42% off! This might be our replacement!

I'm also looking for gifts for the fam.  Here are some I'm thinking of buying.

Random Thoughts on Happy Tuesday

Please visit Random Tuesday Thoughts and Happy Tuesday for some fun blog hops.

Thanksgiving is almost here!  I can't wait to eat turkey, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, rolls, and gravy!  It's my favorite "food" holiday of the year.  Side note:  We call it dressing whether we stuff it in the turkey or cook it separately.  It's just dressing, and ours MUST contain cornbread.  Maybe that's a Southern thing.    Do you call is dressing or stuffing? Do you use regular bread?  Oysters?  I'm so curious!

In addition to the food, I love a good parade!  Our city's parade was cancelled in 2020 like most others, but it is back this year.  I like to record it and watch it back on my own time.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, did you know that the date has been changed more than once. In 1939, the last Thursday would have been November 30.  President F. D. Roosevelt was worried that Thanksgiving being the last day of the month would shorten the Christmas shopping season making it more difficult for the economy to recover.  So, he moved it to the "second-to-the-last-Thursday of the month.  Some of the states refused to accept the new date, so for two years, there were two different Thanksgiving days in the US.  In 1941, Congress voted to move the holiday back to the last Thursday of November, and it has remained there ever since.

Now let's get funny...

Who thinks of these things?

For those of us whose families are sometimes"dysfunctional" ...

This is right along those same lines...

Last, but not least...
Have a great week and a happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday Thirteen - Thanksgiving Edition

If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going to get.
--Frank A. Clark

How about some lighthearted, "slightly" corny turkey jokes to relieve some stress today?

1. What did the mother turkey say to her disobedient children?
If your father could see you now, he'd turn over in his gravy!
2. How many cooks does it take to stuff a turkey?
One, but you really have to squeeze him in!

3. A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked the stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?" The stock boy answered, "No ma'am, they're dead."

4. What happened when the turkey got into a fight?

He got the stuffing knocked out of him.

5. Can a turkey jump higher than the Empire State Building?
Yes - a building can't jump at all.

6. Why did they let the turkey join the band?

Because he had the drumsticks!

7. Why did the police arrest the turkey?

They suspected it of fowl play!

8. Which side of the turkey has the most feathers?
The outside.

9. How does a Turkey drink her wine?
In a gobble-let

10. What do turkeys like to do on sunny days?
They like to go on a peck-nic.

11. What do you get when you cross a turkey with an octopus?
Enough drumsticks for Thanksgiving.

12. What did the little turkey say to the big turkey?
"Peck" on someone your own size!

13. What do you get after eating way too much turkey and dressing?
Dessert, of course

Random Tuesday and Coffee Chat

Time to link up with Stacy for some randomness!

How was Thanksgiving?  Mine was quiet, just the way I like it.  I went to visit my mom.  We had Thanksgiving lunch at the community center in her town then went to see Love the Coopers.  I enjoyed spending time with Mom.

We also did a little bit of online shopping.  No more black Friday shopping for us.  We haven't gone in years.  It gets too crazy, and unless you need a big ticket item like a computer, game system, or large flat screen HDTV, the deals really aren't worth the hassle.  It seems like everyone is having sales now too, and I've gotten quite a few coupons in the mail to use in addition to the sales at Penneys, Kohls, Michaels, and Amazon.  I've still got plenty of shopping to do!

I haven't put my tree up yet.  I always want to have it up on the weekend after Thanskgiving, but this year... I got sick.  You know I'm sick if I'm not in the mood to put Christmas decorations out.  Haha!  I finally went to the doctor yesterday - got a shot and several prescriptions.  I'll be good as new soon!

And now, Coffee Chat with Rory.

She asks, "Will you be participating in Giving Tuesday?"

What is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is a global day of giving. After the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday is a time to celebrate and encourage activities that support charities and non profits. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering time, helping a neighbour or spreading the word, GivingTuesday is a movement for everyone who wants to give something back.

This is the first time I've heard of Giving Tuesday, but it makes perfect sense!  I don't plan to limit myself just to today, though.

Last night, I took a meal to a friend whose husband just had surgery and can't walk.  Yes, she can cook, but it gave her more time to be with her family instead of in the kitchen.

My school is doing a collection of new books and blankets for a local homeless shelter.

I have plans to purchase items for the Angel Tree at church.  The gifts go to children of prisoners.

There are many ways I can give, but it's not for my glory; it is for God's.

As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” 2 Corinthians 9:9

Giving to the poor, needy, widows, is a constant theme from Old Testament to New Testament of the Bible.  This verse puts it in a nutshell.  My translation is, "Give all that you can to the poor because it is the right thing to do."
Have a great week!

Thankful Thursday Thirteen

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Life is not perfect; it never will be. But I realize that I have so much for which to be grateful.

 1. I'm thankful to live in the United States.
2. I'm thankful for entertainment: Movies, theater, music, television.
3. I'm thankful my mother is still alive to celebrate thanksgiving with me. She has been through three successful cancer surgeries, a knee replacement, a nasty broken wrist, and a hard fall on the concrete that damaged her teeth and mouth. All this within the last seven years. Thank you, God, for giving me such a strong woman with a fighting spirit.
4. I am thankful for church and the freedom to choose where (or if) I worship.
5. I'm thankful for the memories I have of my dad. I miss him so much.
6. I'm thankful for a week off from school.  Maybe I can go see the new Peanuts movie!

7. I'm thankful for my children. They are turning out to be such awesome young adults!
8. I'm thankful for the Internet. Yes, it takes my time, but that is my choice, so...
9. I am thankful I can CHOOSE (lots of things, how to spend my time, what career I want, where to live, and so on.)
10. I'm thankful for friends who enjoy spending time together, socializing, having fun.
11. I am thankful for my cat.  All my fur-baby has to do is purr, and my spirits are instantly lifted.
12. I'm thankful I have a good job, a car, and a home.
13. Most of all, I am thankful that God loves me. I'm grateful to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. That is the biggest blessing of all.
