Tackle it Tuesday

I'm linking up today with 5 Minutes for Mom for Tackle it Tuesday... Making housework bloggable.

I have been meaning to straighten my laundry room for a while now.  It used to be so neat and organized!  (Please don't mind the different color washer and dryer.  That is my husband's doing.)  Now, on to the important part.  Here are some "before pictures."
My laundry room is so small, almost like a closet.  I organized all of the beach towels and extra towels on the left side as well as a plastic container with blankets and extra pillows.  The right side has a stack for top sheets (which my children refuse to use), full-size sheets, and twin sheets.  There is a rack below that for my dry cleaning towel, the dryer rack, and pillowcases.  There is a shelf above the washer for detergent and stain remover.  On the left, there is also a bar for hanging clothes that need to air dry.  I dusted the windowsill, cleaned the floor, and cleaned the appliances. And the baskets fit nicely on the dryer now.  I'm happy with it.
Link up with 5 Minutes for Mom and share your tackles!

The Ultimate Blog Party 2012

Ultimate Blog Party 2012
One of my favorite websites, 5 Minutes for Mom, is hosting the Ultimate Blog Party 2012, and it's going on right now!  If that's how you found me, thanks for visiting!

I'm Forgetfulone, a 40-something mother of teenage twins and step-mom to 2 daughters and a son.  I'm a full time teacher on top of being a busy mom.  I live near Houston, Texas, and it is already hot here!  You can see a picture of the kids here.

I love meeting new friends through my blog, and I have actually had the good fortune to meet several fellow bloggers in person, a few whom I see on a regular basis now, and others that I play games on my smartphone with!  LOL  My facebook page is here, and my twitter handle is @Forgetfulone.

I do enjoy games on facebook and my phone, but I truly enjoy reading.  My favorite genre is crime mystery.  I'm currently catching up on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series and Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series.  I'm also a big Harry Potter fan, but I don't like the Twilight series.  I just finished reading Catching Fire (sequel to the Hunger Games).

I also love scrapbooking.  One of my favorite sites is Pagemaps.  I enjoy working with a sketch when I am laying out my scrapbook pages.  Otherwise, I have a hard time deciding what to do.  I have a craft room, but one day, I want to have my dream craft room.  Maybe after the kids are in college!

Well, that's a little about me.  Welcome to my blog, and I hope you'll come back soon.  Please leave me a comment so I can visit your blog.

And don't forget to check out the prize I am offering... $25 cash sent to the winner via PayPal.  If you aren't yet participating in the Ultimate Blog Party 2012, go visit their prize page.

Tackle it Tuesday

Boy have I had a situation to tackle! My husband was looking for a survey on the house, one that was done ten or eleven years ago before we were married, and no amount of convincing would persuade him that it wasn't in our file cabinet.
Not only that, but he had stacks of papers in no apparent arrangement. What happens any time he can't find what he's looking for? First, I'm called upon. Did I throw it away? No. Did I file it wrong? No. (At least I file papers!) He doesn't mean to imply blame , but he does.

And guess what? The paper he was looking for wasn't in the file cabinet at all, and, as it turns out, was a paper I had never seen before in my life that he had put in a folder, with some other folders, in a sack, in the attic. Hmph!

I left everything sitting there for a couple of weeks hoping he would clean up the mess he created. Last week, I finally reached my limit. I had to try to put Humpty together again because it wasn't going to happen by magic, and he was definitely in no hurry. Plus, he doesn't like to throw things away. He has camping lists and pamphlets from ten years ago!

Rome wasn't built in a day, and this mess wasn't cleaned up in one day. It took several days, but I finally tackled it, with the exception of one little pile that my husband HAS to go through. I threw away quite a bit, too. Well, actually, I recycled it. And that's my tackle!

Catch more tackles at 5 Minutes for Mom!

Say it Forward

Goulash - [goo-lahsh, -lash] According to dictionary.com, goulash is defined as "a heterogeneous mixture; hodgepodge." Yes, it's a Hungarian stew also, and growing up, I always thought of it as everything-but-the-kitchen-sink soup. Either way you look at it, goulash is a good thing!

And if it's Grandma's Goulash, it's a very good thing! The by-line on "Grandma's" blog says, "Musings and Mutterings of a Well-Seasoned Senior." What will you find there? Photos, memes, verse, humor, and a dash of daily life. Another thing you'll find is a friendly blogger who leaves me a few comments each week, and I really appreciate her. I was introduced to her through her daughter at Calico Contemplations who has already received this honor. "Grandma," here is your Loyal Commenter Award. Thank you so much!
Say it Forward is a weekly meme sponsored by 5 Minutes for Mom and designed to let readers recognize their loyal commenters.

Say it Forward

Say it Forward is a weekly carnival in which bloggers feature their loyal commenters. It is hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom.

This week I want to recognize Hootin' Anni! She stops by on a regular basis and leaves encouraging and/or funny comments, and I really appreciate her. Please go visit her blog and say hi. She's got a great sense of humor, and she's a fantastic artist who sometimes blogs about her sketches. Hootin' Anni, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving comments, because isn't that what we all hope for? Comments? Anni, this is for you!

Tackle it Tuesday

Tackle it Tuesday is sponsored by one of my favorite blogs, 5 Minutes for Mom. I haven't participated in quite a while. It's not that I haven't tackled anything in a while, it's that I haven't had the five minutes to photograph and document my tackles! LOL

I got this scrapbook paper storage cube system as a birthday gift from my sister. The box looks rather harmless, right? Wrong! When set up completely, it's almost 5 feet tall with about 30 shelves. So many tiny pieces! So many steps! It took over an hour, maybe longer, to put together. Here is the finished product, paper added, cover on. (sorry the pic on the right isn't so great)

What did you tackle today? Visit 5 Minutes for Mom to see what others are doing.

Blog with Integrity

BlogWithIntegrity.comOne of my favorite blogs, 5 Minutes for Mom, posted yesterday about blogging with integrity (honesty). They have encouraged members of the blogosphere to sign a pledge and post a badge to show that we are committed to integrity in our blogging efforts.

Blog with Integrity is the brainchild of Susan Getgood, Liz Gumbinner, Kristin Chase, and Julie Marsh. Here are some words from the Blog with Integrity website that have encouraged me to sign the pledge:

The Blog with Integrity pledge recognizes that there’s no single right way to blog and more than enough room in the world for different approaches.

What matters is the relationship with our readers. Meeting our commitment to them and to our community. Clear disclosure of our interests so they can evaluate our words. Treating others with respect. Taking responsibility for our words and actions.

The pledge was developed as a positive response to the negativity, back-stabbing, idea theft, and dishonesty that is sometimes out there in the blogging community.

The pledge is simple. Go take a look!

To Superbowl or NOT to Superbowl?

That is the question... being posed over at 5 Minutes for Mom. They've posted some great tips to save time and money in case you're one of those people who is actually throwing a big party.

I noticed some of you have great recipes posted. Tamy at 3 Sides of Crazy always has something yummy cooking.

Me? The superbowl will likely be on in my house, but I am rarely seated long enough to watch a commercial, let alone the half time show or the game, so I'm sure I won't get to see more than a few minutes of it.

There's always something "more important" to do - like help with homework, change the cat litter, wash clothes, clean the kitchen, plan lessons, and I could go on. So, I hope I get to see the new clever commercials, but as for watching the game, it's probably not going to happen.

I am rooting for the Cardinals, however. Being from Houston back in the days of the Oilers and Bum Phillips, I would be a traitor to root for the Steelers. Besides, the mascot at the school where I teach is the Cardinal, so, Cards it is. How about you?

Say it Forward Week 2

Welcome to my "Say it Forward" post, a new weekly carnival of fun started by none other than 5 Minutes for Mom. They are giving us a chance to recognize one of our loyal commenters, so I wish to tell you about a special lady who comments on most of my blog posts, one who I also know I can turn to for advice or a shoulder to whine on. (Click the link to view other say it forward posts or to join in! It's fun!)

This week's loyal commenter on Forgetfulone is an amazing blogger. She makes me laugh, and occasionally makes me cry. Her posts are insightful and humorous at the same time. She can take a mundane topic and turn it into something fun to read. Recently, this fabulous blogger returned from a tropical vacation, and we, her readers, are all so envious, but she soooo deserved it.

Tammy at Queen Sized Funny Bone - Thanks for the laughs. And thanks for the great comments! I know I can count on you when I really need someone to be there. You're a special lady. Take your virtual crown and sash and take the walk down the runway as Bert Park sings... "There she is!" Oh, wait. That's Miss America. Well, just take your virtual crown and sash and take a walk, then! Just kidding. Trying to develop a sense of humor like yours which I admire! You're a blessing out here in blogland.

School Supplies

b2sbutton.jpg
I love school supplies! Thinking about going down the school supply aisle (not when it's crowded, but any other time) makes me happy! Really, it does. I love paper, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, spirals, binders, tape, rulers, well... you get the idea. Is it any surprise that I'm a teacher?

My summer is winding down, and I'll be back at work in two weeks. The kids will be in full swing in three. As a way to help get us ready for summer, 5 Minutes for Mom is having a week of Back to School Giveaways. Click over and join the fun!

These aren't your every day school supplies, either. First up is a Dymo Personal Labelmaker. Boy, could I think of lots of things to use it for! Each giveaway requires a separate comment, so click over every day this week to see what they're giving away. Good luck!

UPDATE - The have added a new giveaway each day (today it's EZ School Supplies), so don't forget to check out 5 Minutes for Mom and sign up for each giveaway separately! Not that I don't want to win. I do! But I want all of you to win something, too. We can share!
