Wishful Thinking (T13)

Here are some phrases that are mainly just wishful thinking; but I think I can make some of them happen.

1. Someday I want to publish a piece of writing.

2. Someday I want to be able to sell something I have made specifically to sell such as a wreath, SVG, or a handmade sewing item.

3. Someday I want our other two daughters to make us grandparents.

4. Someday I want to see my dad again. I guess that will be in Heaven.

This is my dad with his sister, my favorite aunt.

5. Someday I want to sleep ALL DAY without feeling guilty about it. Technically I could do it now, but I would feel guilty.

6. Someday I want to feel thin.

7. Someday I want a hot tub and deck in my back yard, maybe even a pool.

8. Someday I would like to hire a housekeeper.

9. Someday I want to downsize our home to something like this:

10.Someday I would like to go to Europe (like my daughter).

11.Someday I want to take another dance class.  I haven' taken a dance class in 37 years.

12.Someday I would like to have a surprise party.

13.Someday I hope I don't have to worry about money.

Fun Photos - Helen's Garden

There's a beautiful place called Helen's Garden (she was the wife of a city founder), and it's located in League City, Texas.  It's a very peaceful place.  Hope you enjoy!

Happy Random Tuesday! Ever Open the Wrong Car?

Hey!  Glad you're here!  This time next week, I will be touring Carlsbad Caverns, and I'm so excited!  Then it's on to Big Bend although a lot of the trails are closed right now!

But right now I have a real problem:  I often forget where I have parked the car.  Have you ever accidentally tried to open someone else's car thinking it's yours?  I walked out of the store and went straight to (what I thought was) my own car.  I couldn't understand why it didn't unlock when I pushed the button.  Wrong car, dummy!  I felt like an idiot!  I need one of these car trackers!  I really need one for my phone and the Firestick remote control!

One time, I was picking up my husband at Discount Tire, but I wasn't there yet.  He thought I was, and he went to "my" car and actually opened the door, but it wasn't me!   There was another woman sitting there.  I can only imagine how he felt!  It cracks me up, though.

I have heard that sometimes your key will work on someone else's door, but I've never seen it happen.  Honda says they have 3,500 different lock combinations but of course, many more cars than 3,500 on the road.  However, even if it's possible, it's highly unlikely!  And if it opens the door, it's even less likely to be able to start the car.  Good thing, too!  It's considered breaking and entering.

And moving on...

Truth!

Totally me!

Cracks me up!

I remember this well!

For real!

And last, but not least...

Sunday Synopsis

TERROR TOWN, USA: The Untold Story of Joliet's Notorious Serial KillerTERROR TOWN, USA: The Untold Story of Joliet's Notorious Serial Killer by John Ferak
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Milton Johnson is the title character in this true crime book. His first known crime was in 1970 when he was 19 years old. He robbed a couple in Joliet's Pilcher Park and violently raped the woman also brutally torturing her with a hot cigarette lighter. He was sentenced to 25 years but was released early having spent slightly less than 13 year in jail. Being released in 1983 was a huge mistake of the Illinois Prison System. His release was followed by the summer of terror in Joliet, Illinois.

Between June and August of 1983, the following occured.
1. Two elderly sisters were murdered in their next-door-to-each-other-homes. (2 dead)
2. A couple was shot and killed during a home invasion.(2 dead)
3. Five people were killed including two auxiliary police officers.(5 dead)
4. A young couple was accosted. The man died, but the woman, while injured, was alive. She was raped, stabbed, pushed out of a moving car, and left for dead. (1 dead)
5. It is also believed that he murdered 4 women in a ceramics shop. (4 dead)
6. Three more murders occured in neighboring Cook County, but were not linked directly to Johnson. (3 dead)

His murders are a matter of public record, but in this true-crime novel, the author brings them to life in vivid detail. They are not just names and places on a piece of paper. Ferak humanizes them and gives them a voice. The reader will think of brothers, husbands, mothers, wives just like the ones Johnson killed, and see the randomness of this killer. Home invasions, sneaking up on parked lovers, using knives and guns, raping females, shooting at cars and chasing them... he had multiple MOs. He was also African American whereas 82% of serial killers are Caucasian. The author takes the reader through all of the crimes, the investigation, the evidence, and the trials. He doesn't leave you hanging at the end like some authors.

I had never heard of Milton Johnson, but I have no idea why! I guess his crimes were not publicized as much as say, John Wayne Gacy's crimes, although they were similarly horrifying.

Ferak kept my interest throughout the book for the most part. A lof of information is repeated over and over in different parts of the book, and I would have preferred it to be streamlined into chronological order so there wouldn't be a need for repetitiveness of basic details which would also make it easier to read. It is well-written for the most part.

Thankfully Milton Johnson remains in jail. He was sentenced to death multiple times, but the sentences were commuted to life in prison, supposedly without parole, but he has been allowed to request parole anyway. His appeals for parole have thus far been denied, and for that, I am grateful.

Sew Fun!

Hello friends!  I want to share some sewing that I have done recently.  If you read my blog, you know I adore my granddaughter.  I made her a darling dress and a matching hair bow (on a clip) which I forgot to take a picture of, but here's the dress.

I used Simplicity New Look Pattern 6504, view B.  I purchased the main fabric from Jo Ann, Quilter's Showcase cotton as well as the one inch light purple buttons.  I added cotton eyelet trim to the botton of the dress.  The facing was by far the most difficult part of the dress, but I did it!

I also made this bib as we are due for a new grandbaby in less than a month.

This was a little difficult for me.  It is Winnie the Pooh cotton that I already had in my stash on the front and white terry cloth on the back. I had never sewn on terry cloth before.  It's a little different, a little more stretchy than cotton.  It turned out okay, but I'm going to try making one with soft flannel and waterproof/laminate fabric.  I was excited to use my Babyville Boutique snap pliers on an actual project, and the snap turned out well.   I am so happy with it that I can see many types of projects using these snaps in the future.

I also used my Cricut Makerheat transfer vinyl, and my heat press (which is a great alternative to the Cricut easy press) to make this cute onsie and a tee shirt for my granddaughter. Both designs were available through my subscription to Design Space content via Cricut.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my recent sewing and crafting projects.  You can visit Crafty Creators and Friendship Friday for more crafty inspiration.
