Wishful Thinking (T13)

Here are some phrases that are mainly just wishful thinking; but I think I can make some of them happen.

1. Someday I want to publish a piece of writing.

2. Someday I want to be able to sell something I have made specifically to sell such as a wreath, SVG, or a handmade sewing item.

3. Someday I want our other two daughters to make us grandparents.

4. Someday I want to see my dad again. I guess that will be in Heaven.

This is my dad with his sister, my favorite aunt.

5. Someday I want to sleep ALL DAY without feeling guilty about it. Technically I could do it now, but I would feel guilty.

6. Someday I want to feel thin.

7. Someday I want a hot tub and deck in my back yard, maybe even a pool.

8. Someday I would like to hire a housekeeper.

9. Someday I want to downsize our home to something like this:

10.Someday I would like to go to Europe (like my daughter).

11.Someday I want to take another dance class.  I haven' taken a dance class in 37 years.

12.Someday I would like to have a surprise party.

13.Someday I hope I don't have to worry about money.

Purging the Closet

I've seen this simple tip many times, but Connie from Family Home and Life said it well.

Suggestion:  Put all your clothing hangers backwards in your closet once a year, then after you wear an item of clothing, hang them back the right way, forward. After a year, throw out all the clothing items that are still backwards because you haven't worn them.

What better time to start than the beginning of the new year?  This is my closet.  I've turned my hangars backward, and anything I don't wear will be donated at the end of the year.  Great idea!

I may not set resolutions, but I sure do set goals!

I Don't Do New Year's Resolutions (WFMW)

I've been saying it for years!  I don't need a new year in order to make a change.  I think a goal can be set and reached at any time during the year when someone actually wants to make a change.  There is nothing wrong with making resolutions or setting goals, but chances are, I wouldn't be able to keep it, which reminds me of this cartoon I saw on Facebook.

I don't know for a fact, but judging by commercials, I'd say weight loss is at the top of the list for resolutions.  I wonder how long people make good on that resolution.  I know intentions are good, but it's such a commitment!  There is so much pressure to keep your resolution, and people tend to give up if they have a bad day or two.

I did read about a terrific idea (on buzzfeed) that replaces resolutions.  It's called rememberlutions!  It involves keeping a jar (all year) in which you place slips of paper where you have written things you wish to remember.  These can be anything!  For example, my first rememberlution will be reading my "One Year Bible" every day for a week.  Of course, I hope I read it every day all year, but it's certainly something I want to remember.   (Image link above)

It could be any type of accomplishment such as... a new job, a recognition at work, a friend getting married, learning a new skill, going somewhere you've always wanted to go, or even something simple like, "I took the stairs instead of the elevator today."  I didn't invent the rememberlutions jar, but I think it's a grand idea!  You can read all about it here!

This works for me!  Link up with Works-for-me-Wednesday here, and at the new home of WFMW next week.

Un-Productive

I'm not getting as much done in the last two days as I usually do.  The intermediate school kids' germs finally caught up with me.

I didn't call in sick today because I was thinking, "What if I feel worse tomorrow?"  Now, I'm thinking the same thing about tomorrow.  What if I feel worse the next day?

I know it's a virus, so I'm not going to bother going to the doctor.  I've had a lot of students out sick the past two weeks.  Anyone else got the bug?

Year of Productivity Update 1

Do you remember when I declared 2013 my year of productivity?  I have felt so good about getting things done.  That feeling of accomplishment is empowering.  I am doing things I normally do, but I am just more aware of how much I am getting done.  My goal is simply productivity.  For example, I walked four miles on Saturday and finished reading a book on Sunday.  Today I attended a staff development, went to the grocery store, ran three errands in preparation for my son's livestock show that is in two days, had dinner at home, helped my daughter with homework, made lunches, cleaned the kitchen, and gave the cat a bath.  These are things I would do anyway, but NOTICING that I am doing them is giving me a great sense of just how productive I can be.  Why don't you join me?  You don't have to do anything special... just notice your productivity!  It is giving me a great sense of usefulness.  And isn't it great to feel useful?

2013 - The Year of Productivity

Happy new year!  I hope everyone had a safe, fun time celebrating 2013.  I did!  My Houston Rockets won their game, and the hubs and I celebrated sans kids with some "us" time.  This is going to be a big year... I just know it!  We've got the livestock show coming up at the end of this month, several months of Winterguard contests coming up, lots of birthdays to look forward to, and in August, my "babies" will be starting their senior year of high school.  I can't really think about that right now!

If you've read my blog for a while, you might remember that I don't make new year's "resolutions."  Goals are nice, and I set frequent goals for myself, but I won't set a resolution that will simply set me up for failure.  Yes, I want to eat healthy, exericse, be kinder, and all of those things that most people want, but I don't need the new year to tell me those things.  I believe they are ongoing.

So, what I am doing this year is proclaiming this "The Year of Productivity."  It feels so good to get things done, no matter what those things are, so every day, I hope to finish the day by being able to tell myself I accomplished something.  Yesterday, I got the inside Christmas decorations all packed away as well as some laundry done.  Today, I took care of the goat and helped my mom do some grocery shopping.  It's the little things that mean the most to me, so here it is... 2013 will be MY year of productivity!  Let's get stuff done! Happy new year!

No Resolutions for Me

The new year is a time for reflection. For many people it's also a symbolic time to decide to quit a bad habit or form a new, good habit. But I stopped making resolutions a few years ago. While making a resolution shows good intentions for instituting a postive change, I prefer to set my goals as I go along based on my needs at a particular time.

If you decide to make resolutions, just remember that change is gradual. It doesn't happen overnight, and it involves willpower and discipline. Here's an article to help you keep your resolutions. I wish you the best in 2009!

Crunchless Abs

With all the yummies we'll be eating between now and the new year, and with New Year's Resolutions just around the corner, it's time to think about the waistline. One solution to nipping the extra bulge around the middle is Crunchless Abs, a program designed to target your entire abdominal core.

My back and neck can hardly stand the strain of crunches, and I'm not a big gym person, but this little video just might help. There are three programs, so you can start with one and graduate to the next two, or you can do one on one day, then another on the second day, and so on, to keep from getting bored doing the same routine. They're simple exercises, and you don't need fancy equipment. And, while two people demonstrate the basic exercises, they have another demonstrating a little more challenging way to perform the moves for those people that are ready for it.

You can try Crunchless Abs by ordering directly from their website for only 9.99 plus shipping and handling.

Or you can visit Family Review Network for your chance to win a copy of this DVD. Enter by December 26th!

Thursday Thirteen # 34

Here are 13 (of many) activities, projects, and goals I have for the summer months- not necessarily in order of importance. Some of them are completed, some are partially completed or ongoing, and some haven't even been started yet, but I will get there!

Completed: These are the easiest ones to start with.

1. Attend classes in Adobe Photoshop and have it installed on my laptop.

2. Have birthday parties for my twins. Hers was a sleepover, and his was a baseball game.

3. Take a relaxing vacation to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon as well as The Navajo Tribes National Monument, and finish off with shopping in Sedona and a 2 day stay at a Hilston Resort outside of Phoenix.

Partially Completed

4. Scrapbooking with my sister. We did this last weekend in case you missed my Sunday Scrappin' post. We have another weekend scheduled and a crop at Archiver's on July 19.

5. Read at least six books this summer. I'm on my 5th one. So far, I've read The Kite Runner, The Penny, Sundays at Tiffany's, Life's a Beach, and I'm currently reading The History of Love. I also joined an online book club in April, Readers Anyonymous, and a "live" blook club sponsored by some ladies at my church. I'm not going to stop at six!

6. Paint the living room. I started the prep work yesterday, finished the prep work today, and got over half the painting done today. I'll finish everything tomorrow.

7. Sleep. I am always so exhausted during the school year, so I take advantage of some down time in the summer to sleep late or take naps when I am able.
8. Spend time with my kids. This is difficult since they spend so much time with their dad in the summer as well as two sets of grandparents. But we've gone shopping, had an ice cream trip, gone swimming, played video games, gone to a movie, gone to instrument lessons, cooked meals, and I've been loving every minute of it. I still need to take my girl for a pedicure and let my son teach me a little more about Halo 3.

The following items are not completed.

9. Take my husband and sister to Louisiana to do a little gambling just for fun.

10. Find a reputable company that can take my analog videos of the kids when they were younger and make them digital so I will be able to use them with Adobe Premier and Pinnacle Studio.

11. Pick out new Living Room curtains and artwork.

12. Get a massage. This one is scheduled for next Tuesday at Beyond Beaute' Day Spa.

13. Get over my CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) enough to host a PartyLite Candle Show. This is also scheduled for next Tuesday. If you can't get PartyLite in your area, and you know something you want, email me. I'm sure you could purchase it from my party, and I can send it to you.
