Random Happy Tuesday

Hello!  I've had a week to absorb the news about my sister's cancer, to discuss next steps, overall prognosis, and treatment options with her.  I am more hopeful now.

I'm sure a lot of people are talking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, but I'm just not going to.

DH and I spent the last three days with our kids and their spouses (and one grandbaby with number 2 on the way).  We spent so much time outside due to the beautiful weather.  It was a much needed respite, but we are glad to be back home.  I'll post some pictures in the coming days.

This is from one of the trails we walked.

Right now I'm searching for new plants for the front of our house.  After last year's winter storm, we lost everything except the Sago Palm.

Not our sago palm.  Just an example.

The front of our home gets a lot of sun, and Texas gets super hot, dry summers, so choosing low-maintenance plants is difficult.  Neither DH or I have green thumbs!  I looked at plants at Home Depot that said "full sun," but turns out, many of them are indoor plants.  I really don't know what I'm doing!  Looks like Boxwood gets the consensus online.
Not our house!

I was hoping for something with a little more personality.  One plant I've had my eye on for a long time is the Foxtail Fern.  Turns out, this one should do well where we want it planted.

And I think I will throw in some elephant ears. I have always loved those plants.

If you have any suggestions for plants that  are drought-resistant and love full sun, please let me know!

Moving on...

Would've been good to consider this BEFORE we went on our trip!  LOL

That's all for now.  Blogger is being wacky with the photos and links!
Have a great week!

  1. Mom isn't good with choosing plants either. It isn't something she is good at nor does she really enjoy it. Hopefully you can find some plants that work and be done.

  3. Praying for your sister, and all of you. It's tough.

While i am a professional plant killer (they commit suicide if they know i will own them), i can tell you to research the elephant ears first. Mr. BA, my employer who loves it that my plant killing talent extends to weeds, put them in his garden a while back and since they're an invasive, they've tried to take over. He's spent the last few years attempting to get rid of them, but they keep coming back no matter how often he or i dig them up and try to get all the roots.

Whatever you plant, make sure it's not an "I'm going to take over your whole garden and smother it" plant, and there are plenty of those.

    1. Thanks! I got one elephant ear bulb and I have a big area designated for it. Knowing me, it might not even grow! LOL
