A Random Rebel on Tuesday with Coffee Chat

I'm so happy to have my daughter home from college!  We haven't done too many things yet because I am not off work, but I like having her here.  I hope she is comfortable in her room, and I hope it beats a dorm room any day!  She is doing well in school this year which makes me proud.  She usually likes to go to the rodeo during spring break, but we don't have any tickets this year.  Which leads me to...

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo started last week.  It's one of the largest national rodeos with millions given away in scholarships to deserving young men and women who have raised animals, and prize money to the professional cowboys and cowgirls in the rodeo in events such as bull riding, barrel racing, calf-roping, and many other events.  They have miles of exhibits, everything from educational displays, petting zoos,  and artwork, to booths with furniture, western wear, jewelry, and other goods for sale.  And the food is delicious, if not expensive.  And where else can you get a funnel cake besides the carnival?  I gave up riding carnival rides years ago, but they actually have quite a few rides. The icing on the cake is the concerts:  Eric Church, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert, and Alan Jackson, to name a few.  I just wish it didn't get so crowded.  Which leads me to...

The highways are always crowded on the way downtown from where I live in suburbia, and I have to go downtown in a couple of weeks for jury duty.  Oh, yes, that fun day of waiting to see if you get chosen for a panel, much less an actual jury.  I've only served on a jury once.  It was a pretty boring case, too.  It was over the international rights to broadcast the World Cup, so it pitted one multi-million dollar  company against another.  It was hard to feel sorry for either of them!  I wouldn't mind getting selected for a jury unless it was a really boring case.  LOL!  Which leads me to...

Coffee Chat - Would you rather edition.
Would you rather ride a roller coaster or ride a motion ride, the ones that show you a screen and make you feel like you're actually moving?

I would much rather ride a roller coaster!  The motion rides make me sick! If I'm going to "feel" like I'm going somewhere, I want to actually GO somewhere.  Roller coasters are exhilarating!  I love one with a loop-de-loop and a really long drop in it.  My favorite so far is the one at Disneyland's California Adventures.  We rode it several times when we went a few years ago.  We rode their motion ride, too, and it made me sick to my stomach.  Haha!  So, would you rather...?

  1. I am with you! Although with age I am aware that the roller coaster could malfunction and I could die, I still think they are fun (although I do tend to close my eyes more than I did when I was a kid). But motion rides .... blech!! Many years ago I chaperoned my daughter's youth group to Six Flags and the first ride we conquered was the SPONGE BOB motion ride. I was sick ALL DAY! I couldn't get over it! Ugh! Getting old stinks.

  2. It's been a long time since I've been to a rodeo - the hubby's scared of horses so I think I'm going to have to recruit my daughter into going. ;)

I'm with you - I'd much rather go on a roller coaster rather than a motion ride - I think the difference for me is you're at least out in the fresh air on a roller coaster, and you're *moving*, wind whipping in your hair...the motion rides are more like feeling carsick. :)

  3. I am scared of coasters so one of those rides where I know I'm not actually plummeting to my death is preferable!

  4. I used to show horses when I was younger and love barrel racing!! I wasn't that great at typing or roping, because I was just a kid, but I loved trying it.

And I would definitely love to go on the roller coaster ride!! I love them. I haven't been to Disneyland, but we had Canada's Wonderland when I was growing up and the had quite a few great ones. I can't even remember their names now ... I think one was called The Bat. You went through it once with all the drops, curves and twists; then it pulled up high again and you went back threw backwards. it was awesome! we did 8 times in one day one trip!

  5. I have never been to a rodeo, we almost went to one in Cody, WY but did not at the last minute. I think it sounds fun. I hope you are able to enjoy some time with your daughter. Have a great week.

  6. I used to love roller coasters. The illusion "rides" make me feel very disoriented, not dizzy or sick, just unsettled. I prefer the real deal.
    Have a great weekend!
