Sunday Scrappin'

Hi scrappers! I didn't get much done, but I got something done, and I'm happy for that. After school is out this week (and I can't WAIT for that, it's been a rough year), I am going to tackle my scrapping HARD. Of course, that's what I say every year, but this time, I mean it!

This week, I made two items for a friend whose son is graduating. She's going to use them on her scrapbook cover page.

And I put together this card really quickly.

The optional challenge for the coming week is to finish up that one item you have hanging around. We all have one... a page that just needs some journaling, a card that needs a base.... whatever it is, dig it out and get it crossed off your list! I definitely have some things that fit in that category!

It's Just My Opinion

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

My review

If it weren't for Readers Anonymous, my online book group, I never would have chosen to read this book, The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory. I'm not a big fan of historical fiction, and I wasn't excited about reading this daunting, 661-page book. In fact, for the first 75-100 pages, I still wasn't very thrilled, but then, something clicked. I began to feel a connection with the characters, and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. You might think you know what happens, but you really have no idea. I lost many hours of sleep reading this book!


The main character is Mary Boleyn, Anne Boleyn's sister (Anne of Queen-of-England fame). Gregory delved deep into Tudor history to develop this factual tale of the English court, English history, love, betrayal, sex, money, power, scandal, sibling rivalry, and masquerade. All of it came to life on the page - rich descriptions, realistic dialogue, intrigue, and suspense.


I have not seen the movie, but I have heard that it is nothing like the book, so I may not watch it. I don't want to ruin the magic this book brought to life. Finishing this book was like losing a close friend. But now, it's time to hit The Beach.

Mind Your P's and Q's!

When you're blogging, how careful are you about what you say? Do you sometimes withhold your truly honest opinion so that you don't alienate a reader? Are there certain topics you avoid because they generate too much controversy? Do you cite your sources? Does anyone include a disclaimer stating that your blog is strictly your opinion, not fact? If not, this story from today's Houston Chronicle might make you change your style.

A blogger right here in my hometown spent the Memorial Day weekend in jail on charges of contempt of court. She was ordered to turn over a computer but failed to do so, stating it was stolen shortly after the judge ordered the computer to be used as evidence in a case of defamation and conspiracy against her and others. The original suit was brought by Virgie Arthur, Anna Nichole Smith's mother, who quite possibly might take custody of Anna Nichole's daughter and her 88 million dollars.

The blogger in question says that she was just stating her opinion about Anna Nichole Smith and her family, and now she's facing defamation charges and did not turn over the computer in question. She is accused of writing her opinion as though it were fact. Apparently, what she said might sway a judge or jury in their ruling on Dannielynn's custody. There is definitely a lot at stake, and I would never presume to judge who's right or who's not.

In any case, though, does this mean that anyone can sue a blogger if they don't like that blogger's opinion? If so, that's a bit scary. Luckily, I usually don't write about anything controversial, political, or anything you might consider a hot topic, but still... does this concern any of you other bloggers at all? I'd like to know your opinion!

My "A" word is AUNT.

I'm the Aunt of a young man who is graduating from high school in a couple of weeks then headed off to college at Texas A&M (like his mom and dad). It is so strange to see him all grown up when I remember changing his diapers. But, grown up, he is. He is smart, athletic, considerate, and plays a mean guitar! Not to mention that he even lets me be his friend on Facebook. I'm such a proud Aunt!

My Ta-Da for this week is one completed two page layout from our trip to Arizona last summer. I did work on 4 more Disney pages and 2 dance pages, but I didn't complete them. My goal was to get SOMETHING, anything, completed so I could post, and I did it!

My To-Do is to be able to accomplish something I can complete and post in a photo. Anything!

The optional challenge last week was to use flowers, and I didn't get to do it this week. The optional challenge for this week is go 3-D! Use something dimensional on your scrapbook layout, or, create a 3-D object out of paper. There are all kinds of possibilities with this one!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to scrapbooking with some friends, tomorrow my plans include sleeping late and a little shopping, and Sunday, I want to go to church, help my kids start planning their birthday celebrations, and I'll have to go to the dreaded grocery store.

Sunday Scrappin'

Yes, I realize it's not Sunday. I'm a day late, but I just couldn't get my photo uploaded until today, and the photo didn't come out well because I need a new camera. But here it is anyway! I started some layouts over a week ago and just couldn't get my creative juices flowing, but I did manage to finish one of the two-page layouts Sunday. This is one of our days at the Magic Kingdom last spring break. Happy crafting to all!

It's Just My Opinion

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is possibly the best book I've read since The Kite Runner! It was even better than The Davinci Code. I never picked it up before because the title turned me off. Big mistake. I finally decided to read it since the movie is coming out. I'm sure the movie will not be as good as the book, but I still want to see it.



The book is fascinating - full of suspense and action. There is also rich history about Rome and The Vatican. Dan Brown did his research well! The plot kept me guessing until the end, even if I did have to suspend reality for a little while.



It's a long read, but I highly recommend it!
