Snow!

We Texans, especially those of us along the Gulf Coast, weren't cut out for snow! We get a little dusting of it, almost more ice than actual snow, and we freak out. We have to take pictures, write about it, call our friends and family, and if we're really crazy, go outside in it. The kids are out there trying to have a snowball fight.

Yesterday, we had a high temp of 78! Right now, it's 34 degrees outside! It's probably not the snow many of you northern states are used to, but for us, it's a big deal. It hasn't snowed in the Houston area since 2004, and when it snows, it usually doesn't stick for very long. But, it started snowing about an hour ago. That's my back yard, a tree in the front yard, and the icy snowball my son threw at the front door just two seconds before I opened it. I would have gotten creamed with it!

I'm really freezing to death right now! Inside. With warm, fuzzy socks on. With the heater on. With the computer in my lap. I wasn't cut out for this! How do you guys handle this?

Fill 'er Up!

Remember that? "Fill 'er up!" I wonder how many of you are old enough to remember "filling stations?" Translated for the younger folks, that's a full-service gas station. An attendant actually came out to your car, asked how much gasoline you needed, filled your tank, washed your windows, and checked under your hood. Those were much slower times when people weren't always in a hurry like we are now. Reminds me of this song (which reminds me of my Dad, too.)

My husband and I took this picture of some vintage filling station pumps in Arizona last summer.

Today I found a "virtual" museum of gasoline station history. There are some great filling station images that will really bring back memories for some of us.

On a final note, my sister had a green, stuffed, Sinclair dinosaur that she used to carry around everywhere until its neck broke and its head fell off! My parents tried to replace it with a new one, but she would have none of that!

Sunday Scrappin'

Ta-Da's

I made a centerpiece, a banner, and a birthday card for my step-daughter. She'll be 16 tomorrow, but we had a surprise party for her last night. With that and the Rockets game on Friday, plus work all week, I didn't get anything else completed. I was able to organize my stamps, pads, scrap paper, and tools - mainly because I had to in order to get ready for the party. My pictures didn't turn out well.

To-Do's

I've decided to take the easy way out on the cover page for my mom's scrapbook album and use a Precious Moments pre-made page. I will just add the words "Precious Memories" on the computer and print it directly on the page.

I hope I get the chance to actually make a page this week, but it's going to be so busy! There are so many things going on at work and at home that I may not be able to.

Challenge

Last week's challenge was to make something as a gift. I would say my decorations and the birthhday card count for that. This week's challenge is to use snow in your project. It can be snow stickers, snow stamps, snowmen... it's up to you!

Snowflakes and Sparkle Swap Goodies

I was so blessed to receive Joy of Joy to the Blog as a swap partner. I don't know if what I sent her even compares to the goodies I received, much less to the way she wrapped and sent my gifts. It was so sweet and heart-warming. I opened my box and found this:

Inside the pretty green bag, I found these wrapped gifts:

She used various types of wrapping with some beautiful ribbons, but she also used vintage sheet music, which was incredibly creative and pretty. And... just look at the detail on some of these packages! Can I say how impressed I am at her talent?

Inside my beautifully wrapped gifts, I received an assortment of items including a snowman/ice cube ornament, which I love, a holiday notepad, which is right up my alleny, a snowman/sled decoration, a snow-MOM ornament, a glittery snowman that has a clip on the bottom, two other snowmen ornaments, and some Lindor chocolate truffles - which are already gone because they were so delicious.

Best of all, I received six homemade gift tags that deserved their own photo! I am so impressed with Joy's originality and creativity as well as her talent, because not only did she make these, but they look so darn pretty.

Wow. I really needed something to brighten my week, and this surely did. Thanks, Joy!
