9/11 Exactly Where I Was

I remember exactly where I was on 9/11/01. My next-door-teacher came to get me from my classroom to show me on the television what was happening.

At first, I thought it was a Hollywood stunt. Then, I thought it was a joke. He explained it to me, and reality sank in.

I realized why the skies had been eerily quiet that morning. I lived near a major airport, and I was so accustomed to planes flying over every few minutes, and there was nothing in the sky. I was at the school where I taught at the time. My twins, age five at the time, were at a different school for kindergarten.

I know exactly where I was, and I remember how I felt. I hope we never forget. I hope we are better prepared for a tragedy such as this, and I hope it never happens on American soil again.

Random Tuesday

I'm linking up with Stacy!

I've really been a slacker on the blog lately!  Partly because I've been sick for the last ten days, but partly because I've been so busy at work.  But excuses aside, I've got to work harder to make some more posts.

So... today is the anniversary of 9/11.  It really brought our country together as one.  Our differences didn't seem so drastic.  Over the last 17 years, I feel like we've drifted apart again as a country.  I don't wish for anything like that to ever happen again, but I wish we could get back to seeing things through the same lens.

I remember that day like it was yesterday.  I know exactly where I was and exactly what I was doing.  I've written about it before.  My twins were only 5 at the time, so they don't remember it, nor do the students I'm teaching now.  They weren't even born yet.  But I remember.  I still feel blessed to live in this country as fallible as we all are.  How about you?

Let's lighten the mood a little.  Did you hear about the shark-nappers?  Seriously!  Three men stole an 18 inch horn shark from the San Antonio aquarium about a month and a half ago.  Ironically, it was the last day of Discovery's Shark Week.  They grabbed "Miss Helen" from the touch pool when no one was looking, snuck into a filter room, and transferred her to a stroller.  Then, they headed for the parking lot and got away.  Now... I ask you... what are you going to do with a SHARK?  Luckily, they nabbed all three of the thieves, and Miss Helen is back in her tank.

And now...
This is SOOOOO me!

Again, this is SOOOOOO me!
I love this!
Have a great week!

Remember 9/11

Sixteen years ago today, I was on the way to school, and the silence was deafening. Planes usually flew over our area at very regular intervals since we were 10 minutes from the airport, but absolutely nothing was in the sky. It wasn't until later that I found out why.

I was working in my classroom preparing for the school day when the teacher next door came to get me to show me what was happening on TV. I didn't understand it. Was it a movie stunt? A joke? What? It took a while for it to really sink in what had happened... terrorists changed the face of America in a matter of minutes.

I will NEVER forget 9/11.

Remembering 9/11

I remember exactly where I was. My next-door-teacher came to get me from my classroom to show me on the television what was happening. At first, I thought it was a Hollywood stunt. Then, I thought it was a joke. He explained it to me, and reality sank in. I realized why the skies had been eerily quiet that morning. I was at the school where I taught. My twins, age five at the time, were at a different school for kindergarten. I know exactly where I was, and I remember how I felt, but I cannot describe it. I hope we never forget. I hope we are better prepared for a tragedy such as this, and I hope it never happens on American soil again.

Always Remember

I will never forget where I was, how I felt, and what I was thinking when those twin towers fell 11 years ago.  I wrote about it here and here.

Nine Years Ago...

My political opinions and my perspective on many things completely changed. I'm talking about the attack on America, September 11, 2001. I remember it well.

On the way to school that morning, the silence was deafening. Planes usually flew over our area at very regular intervals, but absolutely nothing was in the sky.

I try not to blog about anything too controversial, so I will just end this by saying, I will NEVER forget 9/11, even though I wasn't personally affected. I also want to invite you to visit ExperienceProject to read stories posted by people like you and me about their 9/11 memories.

Where Were You?

The Heads or Tails Prompt today is Heads: Wear *or* Tails: Where. You can do either or both. I'm choosing Tails because every time I see the word "where" lately, I am reminded of 9/11, and particularly, a song titled "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning, that September Day" by Alan Jackson. On the anniversary date of 9/11 this year, I was evacuating for a hurricane, so a commemorative blog post did not happen.

I do remember exactly where I was. My next-door-teacher came to get me from my classroom to show me on the television what was happening. At first, I thought it was a Hollywood stunt. Then, I thought it was a joke. He explained it to me, and reality sank in. I realized why the skies had been eerily quiet that morning. I hope we never forget. I hope we are better prepared for a tragedy such as this, and I hope it never happens on American soil again.

Did you know that church attendance was up by 75-80% in the week or two after the attack? Did you also know that only 8 weeks later, it had dropped down to regular numbers already?

I'll leave you with this tune. Thanks for stopping by.
