Heads or Tails

The prompt for this week's Heads or Tails is "pile" which couldn't be more appropriate right now!

I have come to the conclusion that my children are packrats! Oh, they come by it naturally. I'm a saver of yearbooks, programs, photos, memorabilia, one who doesn't like to throw things away, but as I have used the excuse, "I'll use it someday" over the years, and it's proven not to be true, I now have to attempt to downsize and minimize the PILES of stuff I have accumulated! I've always known that I have a difficult time throwing things away, and now I have learned that my children do, too.

What started out as a seemingly mundane task, letting the kids switch bedrooms and painting their rooms while they are gone to their grandmothers, has turned into a monumental ordeal. Where did they get all this stuff? There are PILES of cards, PILES of photos, PILES of pens and pencils, PILES of clothes, and PILES of notebooks. Then we have PILES of stuffed animals, PILES of blankets, PILES of posters, PILES of tickets they've won at Gatti's, and PILES, and PILES, and PILES of an endless amount of useless paraphernalia! How, in 13 short years, did they accumulate so much stuff?

When they return, we are going to have a PILE-reducing contest! Whoever reduces their PILES more, wins. Wins what? Who knows? Maybe something from one of my PILES!

  1. always a big dilemna for me, I made collages from the pictures , folders of stuff to save for the others, pretty stones and glass in my garden

  2. that a great pile of memories!

  3. You got the painting done? Yay for you!!!

It's amazing how much kids can fit into a room, isn't it?

Maybe instead of a contest you could have a garage sale and let them MAKE money from their stuff. It might make them want to clean out even more. Then again it could backfire and they'd collect more for next year.

Psst.. I messed up on the theme on my post. :P

  4. Imagine how many piles you'll have when you reach my age! Ah well, someone else will have to sort them out!!!!

  5. I can relate I am a pack rat who has trouble throwing things away. Good lucks!! Happy HOT :)

  6. Great post!!! They learn what they live though.....I had one here too. Get a hold of it now, while you can!!! lol

    Hugs Giggles

  7. hahaha So funny! where DO they get all this stuff?? I like skittles idea! Instead of getting them a prize which will just end up on a pile, get rid of the piles! haha
    very good post Di!
the apples aren't falling too far!! :))

  8. I can totally relate! I'm piler & so are my husband & daughter.... I don't know how to stop it! Working on getting organized & somehow that's making me make MORE piles!???

  9. I recognize this syndrome. Two daughters: one a pile person and one who tossed everything, anything at all and had to be reminded periodically to see if she could find her driver's license in the garbage bin. I caught the pile thing from the pile person...pretty sure.

  10. I used to be a hoarder but now I am much better.

Could you scrap soem of the certificates, programs etc.

By scrap, I mean make pockets on your page with vellum to hold the memorobilia that you want to keep.

  11. That is a great idea to have a pile reducing contest. Great motivation. I never considered myself a packrat, but it seems that after I have had my son it is a lot harder to part with stuff - especially my little guy's stuff.

I love comments! Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
