Random Happy Tuesday

 Hello!  I didn't forget this week!  But, about the time you read this, I will be under the knife getting a partial shoulder replacement (hemiarthroplasty). Oh what fun (sarcasm)!  But it needs to be done! This may be more info than you want, so keep scrolling if medical procedures give you the heebie jeebies.

It will look something like this.

I wonder where the phrase "under the knife" came from.  Let's find out!  Here's no suprise:  It originated from the field of surgery (duh).  It refers to the instrument used to make incisions such as a scalpel.  It's been used as a metaphorical expression since the early 20th century.

Well, that was not nearly as exciting as I hoped it would be!  I so love looking up the origins of idioms.  Maybe I can find something to make you laugh, although that's not what I'll be doing!

Praying this doesn't happen to me!

My daughter's surgery went well.  She went through it with bravery and grace.  The doctor showed us a photo of her thyroidd gland. The left side was considerably larger than the right, and we could actually see what the cancer was doing to her thyroid.  Eye-opening!  Check your neck! They found hers when she had a case of tonsilitis.

 My botched surgery re-do is today, and I'm not feeling all that brave  Last time I ended up with a hole punctured into my uterus.  A different doctor is doing my surgery and I'm having it done at a different place as well.  But I'm still nervous.

My sweet father-in-law passed away a week ago, and my mom has been in the hospital one day short of a week.  Our family needs some good mojo!  I'm trying not to whine and complain.  We just need a break!

In other news, country singer Jason Aldean cut his Connecticut concert short due to "heat exhaustion."  He then admitted he'd been out playing golf all day.  I'm sure it gets hot on stage, but the high temperature in Connecticut Sunday was only 85 degrees at 3PM.  High temp here near Houston today was 101 with a heat index of 108.  Methinks there is more to the story.

How about we just get happy with some funnies?

Happy Random Tuesday

 

To all the moms... How was your Mother's Day?  Mine was pretty good!  Over the weekend, I got to see 3 of the 4 kids (they are all grown up, but they're still kids to me!).  My daughter from Dallas surprised me when she showed up out of the blue.  I had flowers, cake, lunch, cookies, plants, and even got to do a little shopping.  My husband even got me chocolate covered strawberries.  And I got to have lunch with my mom and give her some flowers and a card.  Overall, what a wonderful weekend!

I wish I could say there was some improvement in my medical issues, but alas, not yet.  I have contacted a couple of attorneys online.  I wonder if they even read those website forms?  One place called me and they don't do medical malpractice anymore, but they did refer me to someone.  I think I just need  to take a few hours for phone calls on both my and my mom's issues.

Random, Happy Tuesday

Hi all!  Quick question... do you plan your blog posts ahead of time, or do you let them happen organically?  I'm just curious!  Let me know in the comments, please.

Many of you know we moved my mom to memory care and much closer to me, so now my sister sees her even less than she did before.  That makes me sad.  But I see her almost every day, and... she was able to let one of her cats move in, too. She can't really remember if she has fed the cat and she can't bend down to scoop the litter box, so I go over and take care of that.  And if I miss a day here and there, the litter box is large enough that it doesn't truly need to be cleaned out but maybe 2 or 3 times a week.  I have the cat's dry food in a gravity feeder, so she always has access to it.  Bluebell seems to cheer Mom up.

It's been two weeks now since my botched surgery. My stepson (who is in the medical field) told me to retain an attorney which I haven't done yet, but I've started looking, and has told me to call the insurance company and ask for an investigation in whatever charges come from this surgery.  With my family history of cancer, the fact that I have to wait another 6 weeks (8 total) to maybe get the original procedures done makes me nervous.

Let's lighten things up!

It's Random and It's Tuesday

 

This time last week, I had my surgery.  Things did not go as planned.  I was supposed to have two procedures that didn't require actually cutting me open, but the doctor made a mistake ("nicked" one of my important organs) that cost me several weeks of recovery, unnecessary pain, and two new incisions in my abdomen. Nicked as it is used here = tore, perforated, cut...

I am healing very slowly, and I'm back to square negative 1.  Not square 1, which would be where I was just prior to the procedure, but I'm at least two steps back from that.  If they ever do schedule me to try that procedure again, it will be 6 to 8 weeks from now at minimum.  I have to heal from my incisions, the trauma to my body, and the doctor's mistake.  And I will go back to that doctor for my follow-up, but she isn't going to be my doctor for future procedures.

So, that's not very happy news, but I will get to being happy with some funnies (not surgery-related)!

So Random

Some of my favorite bloggers are on breaks, but I'm not. 😏

First, my surgery was a success.  I've been out of my sling and doing physical therapy for a couple of weeks.  I still have some pain every now and then.  Okay, I lie a little.  I have pain every day, but it's bearable, and it's getting better every day.  I can't do everything I could do before, but I'm making progress, and that's what counts.

The Christmas break is going by quickly.  I think I've finally got my shopping done, most of it online, and I'm waiting for two more packages that are due to be delivered tomorrow.  Luckily, the youngest daughter has been here to decorate and wrap presents.  The middle daughter graduated from college last weekend and her internship starts in January.  In the meantime, she's got some planning to do for her wedding next summer.  It's so much fun to look at decorations, invitations, favors, and things like that.  Here's a peek at an engagement photo:

I'm hosting Christmas at my house this year which is no easy feat considering the dysfunction bold personalities on my side of the family.   Friction.  There will be friction.  I'm going to spend some time on my knees before everyone gets here.  Ever since my dad passed away, holidays aren't as joyful as they used to be.  On my husband's side of the family, we'll have a peaceful celebration.   One out of two ain't bad, right?
