An AI Friend

Have you heard of this? "Friend:your new roomate is waiting."  It is worn as a necklace that picks up all of your habits, conversations, work, etc .  It uses AI to become your friend.  Friend is $129 and does not require a subscription. It has a 1 year warranty and is made in Canada. This is what it looks like:

This is what the company says is its purpose:

The "AI friend necklace" is a wearable device that acts as an AI companion, designed to combat loneliness by listening to its wearer and offering conversational feedback via text messages and push notifications on a paired phone. It functions by continuously listening to your surroundings and conversations, and then processing that information to provide commentary, opinions, and answers to questions, much like a chatbot with perfect memory. The necklace can also be used as a content creation tool to generate story ideas from your day.

Core functions
  • AI companion: It simulates a friendship by offering commentary and opinions based on your surroundings and conversations.
  • Conversational AI: It can answer questions and interact with you, with the AI's responses and "memories" stored on the companion app.
  • Content creation: It can be used to identify interesting events from your day and suggest ideas for content like videos.
  • Constant listener: The device has an always-listening mode to capture everything that is said by you and others around you.
Potential concerns

  • Privacy: The necklace constantly records audio and video from your surroundings, and the company states in its terms of service that users are responsible for complying with local laws regarding recording.
  • Emotional impact: Some experts worry that users may begin to attribute human qualities to the AI, leading to emotional confusion and a skewed perception of relationships.
  • Surveillance: The device collects and stores data from your environment, leading to concerns about surveillance disguised as a self-care or friendship tool.
So, what do you think about it?  You can order one from this website.

  1. I believe people should be cultivating a real friendship, not settling for a fake "friend" such as this.

    Thanks for the grins!
