Friday Fill-ins

I haven't done a Friday Fill-ins in a while. This week's edition is a tribute to the Beatles. Visit more Friday Fill-ins participants by clicking here.

1. There are places I'd like to see but probably won't ever get to go like New York and London.
2. So the roads won't be icy in the morning, wind, please blow those clouds away.
3. Standing in the line of fire.
4. I heard the news today that our former choir director was arrested on charges of sexual harrassment, oh boy.
5. He went out tiger hunting so he could take pictures of the pretty creatures.
6. I can't keep my mind from wandering .
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to dinner out with the kids, maybe a trip to Walmart, & trying to stay warm with temps in the 20's (this is South Texas! It's not supposed to get that cold!), tomorrow my plans include doing as little as possible except maybe a scrapbook page and a trip to Academy, and Sunday, I want to go to church and relax, but I will probably end up grading papers, going to see my mom for her birthday, and helping the kids with projects due on Monday!

Heads or Tails

This week's prompt at Heads or Tails is "square."

One slang definition of the word "square," according to Urban Dictionary is a person who is regarded as dull, rigidly conventional, and out of touch with current trends.
While that may not describe me all of the time, this New Year's, I was a square. I certainly wasn't in Times Square! I didn't go out to eat, didn't go to a party, didn't go dancing. No. I stayed home, someone brought over fast food for dinner, and I played on the computer and watched movies. Pretty dull, huh? I didn't even have the obligatory glass of champagne but instead opted for a few ounces of strawberry wine at midnight. I didn't even eat traditional "good luck" foods on New Year's Day. Guess I just wanted to be a square!

What did you do to ring in 2010?

Sunday Scrappin'

Welcome to Sunday Scrappin! Please join us if you are a paper crafter!

I scrapped at Archivers the day after Christmas. My friend and I scrapped again at her house on December 29. And my sister and I scrapped on January 2 at my house. So.... I have about 35 pages completed. Instead of uploading each photo separately, I put them in a slideshow so the page would load faster. I am hoping to keep my scrapbooking momentum going, but with school starting again this week, there will probably not be as much time. I so love scrapping.

While I was at Archivers, I met these great ladies who had met at A Cherry on Top, an online scrapbook store and community. So, I registered and joined them at A Cherry on Top. If you like to scrap, it's fun! Just go to the forum, or online community, and join a discussion or simply read some.

Happy New Year Scrappers! I hope you'll read my posts about renting movies and my year in books.

Renting Movies

I am a huge fan of Netflix! I love ordering my movies online and having them delivered directly to my mailbox. I love having no late fees. I love not having to go out to the store. I also love being able to compare my movie lists and ratings with those of my friends and family. And the price is right, too. For less than $17 a month, I can rent as many movies as I want and have three at a time at home with me. I estimate that I pay $2-3 per movie (again, not going to the store and no late fees) in a typical month. They are quick, also. I return a movie on Monday, and by Wednesday, I have the next movie on my list. And I still have two at home to watch in the meantime. You can even choose plans where you have 4 or 5 at home at a time, which I sometimes do during the holidays or during summer. Netflix is also a good way to view TV series on DVD such as my favorites Lost, 24, ER, and Grey's Anatomy. If you go to the store to rent these, you pay separately for each disc in the season ($25-30). I can view the entire season plus several movies for just $17 a month! In addition, they have Blu Ray movies for rent if you're one of those lucky people with a Blu Ray player or PS3.

Now, in light of all this, I have made a new friend called Red Box. These are DVD vending machines located at Walgreens, McDonald's, or Kroger stores close to my home. And rentals are $1! Yes, ONE DOLLAR! Blockbuster can't beat that! I just started using Red Box a few days ago, and I love it. I don't have to go inside a store, it's fast, and it's CHEAP! I have at least 24 hours to watch and return the movie. Whoever developed this idea is a genius! We get so many other things from vending machines: sodas, chips, coffee, snacks, even Lotto tickets, so why not movies?

So, while I will continue to use Netflix and love it, Red Box is also there for me. Unfortunately, I was not paid anything for these endorsements.
