Windex Mini Review & Giveaway

Jessica is the winner!
What happens to those plastic bottles of cleaning supplies when the cleaner runs out? Some of it is recycled, but much of it ends up in our landfills.

The smart people at SC Johnson have introduced a "green" solution: The Windex Mini Concentrate. This is a Windex refill that comes in a small, flexible pouch. Simply add the contents of the pouch and 22 ounces of  water to your existing empty bottle, and you have original Windex cleaner!  You're also creating a big change.

In this economy, we are all concerned with saving money.  The Windex Mini concentrated refill pouches will save you money over having to buy full-size bottles.  And concentrates require about 90% less packaging than ready-to-use bottles.  They are also easier to transport.

Think of the plastic that we could avoid using!

Using your Windex Mini, you'll get the same cleaning power and streak-free shine as the regular bottled Windex.  I use it on counter tops, mirrors, and appliances.  Windex also makes a great stain remover on carpet.

At this time, Windex Mini refills are being sold online only.  They are sold in packages of  3 via the SC Johnson website for only $7.50.  If the company can prove to retailers that the product will sell well, we may seem them on the shelves at our local grocery stores.  SC Johnson is asking people to visit their website and leave comments about the product.

Giveaway!  SC Johnson has generously agreed to send one of my readers a Windex Concentrate Refill Mini.  It's easy to enter! Please leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry. This giveaway will remain open until Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at 11:59 PM CST. (US residents only, please)

Scrappy Saturdays

Yes, I know it's Sunday, and maybe even Monday, depending on where you are located.  But the post went up later than usual, and I'm getting this up later than usual as well.  We start school tomorrow, and it's been a crazy, busy weekend!

This week I made some school-related projects.

I also went to Archivers last weekend and got about 8 pages done.  This one is my favorite.  I like the ribbon, the flowers and brads, the colors.  I just like this one.

If you like to do paper crafts, digital scrapbooking, or traditional scrapbooking, join us over at Scrappy Gifts! (P. S. - Don't miss my Schick Giveaway!)

Stylish Schick - Review & a Giveaway!

Rebby and Glogirl are the winners.  Congratulations!
Schick has introduced new Intuition Plus Limited Edition razors.  You're going to love these!  These shavers are available in three fun designs, but they will only be around until September.

These limited edition shavers come in blue (Sensitive Care with Aloe & Vitamin E); light pink (Advanced Moisture with Shea Butter), and hot pink (Renewing Moisture with Pomegranate Extract).  The unique handles have a no-slip rubber grip and a slim design which is great for my small hands.  Refill razors are also available.

I like them all, but I love the hot pink razor!  It's so cute!  That brings a little bit of fun to the shower.  What I love best about them is that you accomplish several steps with one razor:  No need for shaving gel.  These razors lather, shave, and moisturize in one easy step.  The four blade design and pivoting head will allow for a smooth shave.  My daughter, who has only been shaving her legs for about two years, loves her Schick Intuition because she doesn't cut herself like often happens with a regular razor.

Visit Schick Intuition to learn more about these stylish shavers.  You can also Like them on Facebook.

Schick has generously agreed to provide a Schick Intuition package (stylish shaver, 2 refill cartridges, shower hanger, and travel cap) to TWO of my lucky readers.  It's easy to enter!  Please leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry.  This giveaway will be open until Friday, August 26, 2011, at 11:59 PM CST.

1.  Leave a comment on this post telling what type of razor you currently use. (Mandatory Entry)
2.  "Like" Schick Intuition on Facebook.  (Don't forget to leave a comment.)  While you're there, you can "friend" me if you'd like.
3.  Tweet this giveaway.  Come back and leave your link in the comments.  You can do this once a day until the contest ends (up to 8 entries).
4.  Leave a comment on one of my non-giveaway posts.  (Leave a comment here telling me which post.)

Good luck!

The Chronicles of New York: The Lady, the Witch, and the Subway.

I've written about the subway and the bus, but today I want to tell you about the "Lady."  Lady Liberty.  If you ever have the chance to go to New York, visiting the Statue of Liberty should be high on your list of things to do.

Her full name is "Liberty Enlightening the World."  She was given to the US by the people of France.  Lady Liberty is modeled after the Roman goddess of Libertas.  She bears a torch, a tablet representing the Declaration of Independence, and a broken chain at her feet.

After 9/11, Liberty was closed for a while.  She reopened with trips to the island and the pedestal, and finally the crown.  There are no more trips to the torch.  They only sell a certain number of tickets per day, and fewer tickets to the pedestal, and even fewer tickets to the crown.  I purchased our tickets online a month ahead of time, and crown tickets were all sold out.  Tickets for the pedestal were sold out by 11AM the day we went.

Another result of 9/11 is stricter security.  Visitors go through airport-type security before boarding the ferry.  If you are going into the pedestal, there is another security checkpoint prior to admission.  Visitors aren't allowed to take purses, backpacks, and things like that, but you can take a camera.

Liberty Island is a beautiful place for a picnic.  I wish we'd thought of that then!  The views from both the ferry and the island are spectacular.

We even got to look up Lady Liberty's skirt!  Once you get in the pedestal, there are plexiglass ceiling tiles in 3 or 4 places so you can see inside the structure of the statue.  Very interesting.  There are beautiful views of the island from the pedestal.  There is also a museum of sorts that shows actual models and casts that were used in structuring the statue.  In the lobby of the pedestal, you can view the original torch (which has been replaced and undergone several renovations over the last 200 years).

Visiting the Statue of Liberty was one of the most memorable parts of my vacation in New York.  It made me feel so patriotic.  If you ever get the chance to go, don't hesitate!

Scrappy Saturdays

I know I'm a little late posting this, but I'm going to go ahead and do it!

This week on AMC it was "Mob Week," and on Discovery, it was "Shark Week," but at my house, it was "Card Week."  I made 5 cards.  Here are two of my favorites.
This is a card with the verse:  "With God, All Things are Possible."  Inside it says, "Thinking of You" and has a cross. I used an edge punch, distressing, ribbon, flower, and a stamp.

This is a thank you card (obviously) that is blank inside.  I used green and pink papers, my Cricut, fibers, and two jewels.

And I'm so grateful and pleased that MaryAnne included one of my layouts in her Friday Favorites.
Thank you!

Friday Confessional

Link up with Mamarazzi and share your secrets!  You'll feel better afterwards.

I confess:

All day Thursday, I was thinking I had missed Friday Confessional.  I guess I thought it was Friday, so all day I kept thinking, maybe I'm too late to post, or maybe I'll just post late anyway.  Ha!  Laugh's on me!

I confess:

I have been so lazy this summer.  I'm a night owl by nature, so I've been staying up late and sleeping in late.  To top it off, most days, I also take a nap!

I confess...

The worst thing about my messed up sleeping habits is that today, I have to be up at 6:20 AM to take my daughter to practice, and all next week, but I still can't fall asleep at a normal time.  We've been carpooling, and my job was to pick up in the afternoon, but her ride is going out of town.

I confess...

I'm nervous about my son starting driving school in about ten days.  Eek!

And I confess...

I haven't been able to completely catch up with blogs since we came back from New York.  I don't think anyone is reading my blog, either.  I really need to get back into my routine!

The Chronicles of New York: The Lady, the Witch, and the Subway

I've already written once about the subway, but we also took buses through town.
This is a lesson in contrasts.

If you're from the South like me, you have a pre-conceived notion of most New Yorkers as crass or abrasive.  For the most part, this couldn't be further from the truth in most of my encounters in New York.  However, the bus driver on the first bus we took fit the description to a T.  He drove erratically, seemed rushed at every stop, honked at anything that moved or didn't move, and most definitely didn't enjoy his job.  (Who can blame him, really?)

At one point, a lady was asking him questions before she would get on the bus.  She probably wanted to make sure she was getting on the right bus.  After a few quick questions, he basically told her to either get on the bus or go away.  Then, he said, more to himself than anyone else, "Do you want me to kiss your ass, too?"  My jaw dropped!  If he worked in Houston, he would no longer have a job, but no one else seemed floored by his remark.  That sealed the deal on my image of New York bus drivers, at least for a while.

One of the last bus rides we took was not much different really.  The bus driver didn't seem to enjoy his job, and he seemed hurried and annoyed, but not quite so much. There was a blind man on our bus.  Someone walked him on the bus and told him which stop to get off then left him alone, but he missed his stop.

When the bus driver was made aware of this, and we made it to the next stop, he walked the blind man off and apparently told him what he needed to do.  But he didn't stop there.  He walked him across the street and down to the new bus stop, all while we waited patiently.  I was so impressed!  Talk about a contrast!  Everyone applauded him when he returned to the bus, but he didn't seem fazed.  All in a day's work.  And my opinion of New York bus drivers rose exponentially.
